Server CD Instructions
This page will help you get started installing ThinLinc after downloading the Server CD. For more detailed instructions, refer to the Administrator's Guide.
Verify Requirements
Verify that you have access to a Linux server running a modern Linux distribution, or a Sparc-based server running Solaris 8 or later. See 3.2. Requirements in the Administrator's Guide for detailed installation requirements.
Accessing the contents of the ISO Image
The Server CD downloaded is a ISO image that can be used to create a CD. Use your operating system's CD burner software to create a CD from the ISO image. Insert the newly created CD in the CD reader of your Linux server. Hopefully, the Linux distribution should now mount the CD for you. Refer to your Linux distribution's documentation for help.
You can also loopback-mount the ISO image in Linux, which means you won't have to create a physical CD. Do this by issuing the command mount -o loop tl-1.5.0-servercd.iso /media/cdrom.
Assuming that you have a directory /media/cdrom, the contents of the Server CD should now be available under /media/cdrom on your Linux filesystem.
For Solaris, refer to the operating system documentation on how to access CDs or ISO images.
Start the Installation
Before starting the installation program, review 3.6. Platform Specific Notesto see if there are anything you need to think about that is specific to your platform.
ThinLinc is installed using a graphical installation program. Start the installation program by running the program install-server in the serverkit-linux subdirectory under the directory where your server CD is mounted. On Solaris, run install-server from the serverkit-solaris
subdirectory.
The installation program will ask some questions about your system and then install the ThinLinc software. Choose Master when asked for server type.
Start Testing
When the installation program has ended, your server should be running a ThinLinc server and you should be able to connect to it using a ThinLinc client. Play around and test the various components, including the administrative interface which you access by pointing a web browser at http://<servername>:10000/.
Need Help?
We hope that most of the questions that might occur during testing are answered in the Administrator's Guide. Use the search box at the right top of Cendio's webpages to search for keywords.
