Load Balancing
Load Balancing among VSM Agents
For large installations, one server is not enough to cope with the load generated by the amount of concurrent users in the ThinLinc cluster. By adding more servers, more computing power is added. On each such server, the VSM Agent is run.
The VSM Server, which is run on the host clients initially connect to, constantly monitor the status of all servers running VSM Agent, and starts new sessions on the server with the least load. It also takes detects if an agent host is down, selecting only hosts that are up and running when creating new sessions.
The load balancing ensures that the computing power in a ThinLinc cluster is used efficiently.
Load Balancing among Windows Terminal Servers
If one or several applications on the ThinLinc cluster is configured to run via RDP on a Windows Terminal Server, the WTS with the least load is selected when the application is started. This means that ThinLinc can be used as a load balancer for a WTS cluster, and also ensures higher availability for applications run via WTS, should one WTS go down.
