Novell Integration

ThinLinc integrates very well in environments where the existing infrastructure is based on software from Novell.

Included with ThinLinc are tools and documentation that makes it very easy to get started in an Novell environment, allowing existing users to login to the ThinLinc server and use their existing files.

eDirectory Integration

ThinLinc can use the information about users and groups that are available in an eDirectory server. Users login using the same password as they use with existing fat clients.

A tool called the ThinLinc Novell Configurator (TLNC) is included with ThinLinc. This tool is used to make the integration with eDirectory smooth. In most cases, all steps needed for integration can be executed by clicking twice. The TLNC will configure eDirectory for optimal functionality and performance, and create optimized configuration files for the operating system on the ThinLinc servers.

Password changes made on ThinLinc servers are valid for other platforms, and for sites using the forced password functionality in eDirectory, ThinLinc has support for making sure the password is changed at the appropriate time.

Starting with ThinLinc 1.6.0, tools for making decisions in scripts as well as in the ThinLinc Desktop Customizer based on the OU of the user will also be included.

More information about integration with eDirectory can be found in the ThinLinc Administrator's Guide.

Novell File Server Integration

Data on existing Novell-based file servers can be accessed from the ThinLinc cluster. File resources are automatically mounted with help of the Single Sign-On functionality of ThinLinc, so there's no need to enter any passwords after login.

The home directory of each user is automatically found via eDirectory lookup, and other file resources can be mounted via the ThinLinc session startup scripts.

More information about accessing Novell file resources can be found in the ThinLinc Administrator's Guide.

Whitepaper

Cendio has published a whitepaper on integration of ThinLinc in Novell Environments.
