19.1.  Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is a way of providing users with access to their own dedicated virtual machine, as opposed to simply having a user account on a shared server. VDI brokerage therefore involves powering on/off machines as required to conserve resources, managing access permissions, dynamically allocating machines to users and maintaining shared machines in a predictable state.

Choosing between a VDI or terminal services (TS) solution is dependent on many factors including cost, usage patterns and resource availability. ThinLinc supports both VDI and TS configurations, including mixed configurations.
