This is a continuation of bug 2186. For a list of things to do, see the table in comment 17. We might later want to make this bug a meta bug and fix the problems on individual bugs.

Another issue found:

- if you click the cotvnc window, the system doesn't consider the thinlinc application to be in focus. The effect is that when you do Cmd-Tab, it will behave as if you never clicked the cotvnc window at all.
