Description Karl Mikaelsson cendio 2014-05-19 17:26:02 CEST
The build system is complex, the resulting builds require lots of RAM (or complex configuration) and we're not sure that we have many ThinStation users anyway.

We need to investigate alternatives here first. E.g. how difficult is it to use ThinLinc's tar.gz with thinstation? What other projects are there?

Just stumbled over this ticket while searching for another bug.

We are actually a thinlinc customer using thinstation in combination with thinlinc. However, we have also enhanced thinstation quite significantly to match our needs (see https://github.com/hzdr/thinstation)

Regarding having an dedicated thinlinc version for thinstation I would, however, agree that this is not really needed. In fact already a while ago we have generated an own "thinlinc_nightly" package within thinstation to directly download the latest nightly build of thinlinc and extract all necessary things from there (see https://github.com/hzdr/thinstation/blob/master/ts/5.1/packages/thinlinc_nightly/build/install). Thus, it should be in principle possible to build a new thinstation "thinlinc" packages under /ts/5.1/packages which extracts all necessary stuff from the standard thinlinc linux-i686 archive.

ThinStation is still in use by our users, so we want to continue supporting it for the foreseeable future. We've also put some effort in the packaging and documentation recently (bug 7363 and bug 7460).
