Free usage

Cendio offers a limited number of Community Licenses free of charge, for those who wish to run smaller ThinLinc installations (up to 10 concurrent users) and do not require our official support. The ThinLinc server bundle ships with 3 Community Licenses pre-installed, however this can be increased to 10 by downloading an additional license file.

Note that it is still possible to purchase license subscriptions for less than 10 concurrent users, if you are running a production environment and require a fully supported solution. Please contact sales@cendio.com if you wish to upgrade from Community Licenses to a paid subscription.

Please note that Community Licenses are issued for specific ThinLinc versions. A new file must be obtained prior to upgrading ThinLinc.

Installation and usage

The Community License file should be installed on the ThinLinc master server(s) in the same way as a normal license. It is not possible to install more than one Community License file at a time. Instructions on how to install licenses on a ThinLinc cluster can be found in the ThinLinc Administrator’s Guide; however, the basic steps are as follows:

  1. Copy the license file to the master server(s), and place it in the directory /opt/thinlinc/etc/licenses/
  2. Restart the master service (systemctl restart vsmserver) on the master server(s)

You can verify that the license file has been read and activated by running sudo /opt/thinlinc/sbin/tlctl license show, or via the web administration interface.

Users of Community Licenses are strongly encouraged to register an account on our ThinLinc Community Forum. Here you will find answers to a wide range of common questions, articles describing best practice for running a ThinLinc server, and be able to participate in discussions about ThinLinc.
